Question: What should I look for when choosing a builder? Answer: There are many choices of builders in the Triangle area, and it can be a bit overwhelming. The best approach is to do your research and ask the right questions: How long have they been in business? How many homes do they build a year? Do they have dedicated selections, construction, and warranty experts? Ask for references, and call them. Look for builders who deliver a positive customer experience not just before the sale, but long after you are living in your home.

Question: What's the advantage of working with a local builder? Answer: Local builders intimately know the communities, towns, and regions in which they build. Why is that important? At Legacy, we have lived in this area all our lives. We know what each of our communities has to offer: What are the schools like? Where are the closest outdoor activities? What about shopping? Our regional experience gives us the ability to talk to you not only about our homes, but about the communities and surrounding areas as well, helping you to make the most informed decision possible.

Question: What's the difference between "custom," "semi-custom," and "tract" homes? Answer: The difference is in the level of customization that is possible. With "tract" home builders, usually there is not a lot of opportunity to make changes. "Semi-custom" home builders allow for some amount of customization, usually choosing from a set list of upgrades. "Custom" homes truly enable you to create the home of your dreams. Whether you want to make big changes – like adding or eliminating rooms – or smaller changes – like choosing any kind of wood floor or granite countertop, or adding one-of-a-kind built-ins – custom home builders provide the flexibility and possibility to create a home as unique as you are.

Question: How long does it take to build a custom home? Answer: Build times can vary between builders, styles and sizes of homes, and lot types, and can depend on builder resources and schedules. However, standard custom home build timeframes are between five and six months from breaking ground to completion. And are you planning on making changes to the home plan? If so, be sure to plan for extra time to meet with your builder to create the ideal plan to meet your unique needs.

Question: What can I expect when building a custom home? Answer: In a custom home build process, the buyer is truly a partner with the builder. You are involved through every step of the process – from breaking ground to framing, from electrical and plumbing to sheetrocking, roofing, and siding, from finish work to landscaping. Through each stage, there are items to select, decisions to make, and details to learn. At Legacy, we value our partnerships with our clients and strive to make your home build one that you truly feel a part of.
